The film Forrest Gump is filled with symbolism and motifs...but one thing that has always puzzled me is the use of rain in the film. In Vietnam, after Forrest arrived, it at one point started raining, it continued to rain for four months straight, then, the rain stopped and a battle ensued. Another example that I can remember off of the top of my head is when Forrest is trying to catch shrimp, but never seems to catch any, but then a huge storm came and after the storm, Forrest was able to catch shrimp as the other boats had been destroyed. I know that the rain is significant, but I can't put my finger on exactly what it is that the rain symbolizes. Can anyone help me out?... read more
